Gatto Coffee Estates is a family owned coffee business that was founded by John Gatu. (pronounced Gatto). He was born and raised on a small hill farm in Kenya Central Province, near Thika. Young Gatu worked on his father's farm during the weekends and school holidays.

While growing up with his family on the coffee farm, he learned at an early age how to grow coffee, harness and harvest coffee berries. He appreciated the importance of nurturing the coffee bush in order to produce high quality coffee beans. While on the farm, he participated in all stages of the coffee processing; from planting, fertilizing, pruning and berry picking. Coffee contributed tremendously to Gatu's life by providing his family with the income to pay for his school.

Today Gatu leads our company with a wealth of knowledge and experience in coffee processing. He understands the coffee process straight from the farms and societies that produce quality Kenyan coffee to your favourite bag of roasted beans.

Gatto Estates believes and practices fair market trading and uplifting of the livelihood of coffee farmers Worldwide. Gatu also supports the "Water for Kenya" project.
